Sat Nav

For years people were setting off on there trip with map in hand and relying on their partners skills to read it. Map reading is harder than you may think, which is one of the reasons why people tend to get lost around areas they are not familiar, or it could just be a poor sense of direction! When you are driving down the motorway your concentration, when driving around unfamiliar areas, is on where you are going so you are heavily relying on the person or persons in the car to help.

So what happens when you were by yourself, having to pull over means your journey is prolonged unnecessarily which is why so many people used to (and some still do) take the risk of glancing at the map whilst driving and it does not take a genius to work out why this is so dangerous. Even taking your eyes of the road for a spilt second can have terrible consequences so doing so for 10 or 20 seconds can be fatal. This is one of the reasons why satellite navigation systems were introduced to the market, to make driving in unfamiliar areas easier.

All you need to do is to position it so that it is in your eye line and often you can travel from one destination to another without having to take your eyes off the road. This means all you have to do is follow the audio instructions given from the system and you will be taken to the postcode or destination you input into the Sat Nav at the beginning of the journey. The great thing about them is that they save on the age old argument between people in a car as to whether it is right or left as there is no need to argue about it because the Sat Nav tells you which way it is!

There have been many of the leading companies that have released their own versions and now all customers have got a great range available. All of them vary in price and functions so make sure you are getting one that will offer you everything you need. If you often drive to unfamiliar places for business or pleasure then you should make sure you get a top of the range system.

A range of Sat Nav deals are available online and you can also find cheap mp3 players to help make the journey more enjoyable.

In these days of high tech gadgets you may think reading a map is extinct. A lot of people have a sat nav car gadget. A device that tells you where to go, how long it will take you to get there and re route you if you go wrong.

If you are ‘old school’ you may prefer to use a map to plot your route, but don’t knock the Sat Nav Car gadget until you’ve tried it. Although, I suspect that there are many people out there who can’t read a map, it is useful to know how to. A car atlas is usually under a fiver so it’s a good investment to keep one in your car for emergencies. Your sat nav may not be able to connect to a signal so you do, at least, need an idea of where you are going. If you use your sat nav in more than one car, you need to be aware that some vehicles with heat reflecting windscreens do not cope well with the satellite signal.

However, there are many good points to having a sat nav in your car. If you are travelling alone, it is very useful to have a sat nav telling you which road to take so that you don’t have to keep stopping and looking at the map. Also, if you happen to need to wear glasses to read, it means that not only do you have to stop to look at the map but you have to find your glasses too!

One of the best points about a sat nav is that it tells you what lane to be in and makes driving through towns so much easier. It will also tell you if you are over the speed limit and most sat navs will beep at speed cameras.

If the thought of having an automated voice nagging at you is putting you off of having a sat nav, you can use it without the voice. Better still you can download a celebrity voice! Some sat navs will allow you to download music or audio books. Many have features that will tell you if there is a traffic jam and redirect you to the quickest route.

Overall, a sat nav in your car is far better than a map. They are easy to install and use. The extra features that many have are really useful. Being able to read a map and carrying one in your car is always going to be useful but the sat nav has taken centre stage.

Sat Nav

Many people rely on their sat navs to get them to where they want to be and have come to rely on them a great deal, perhaps a little too much. We’ve all heard the stories, the man who followed his sat nav into a lake, the woman who was led onto a train track and the German who was led into a toilet, well maybe that was a one-off, but people have become very dependant on their sat nav and they have become a way of life for many. There are many sat navs available on the market but finding the best one, or the one that’s best for you may seem a bit of a task when you look at how many there are to choose from. The sat navs available all do the same job but there are some that do it better than others. The Garmin Nuvi 660 features integrated Bluetooth which allows you to make and receive hands-free calls, a real benefit in the car and any in-coming calls that you receive whilst driving will automatically mute the voice-guided directions. Other options that this sat nav has are the abilities to send text messages and also to synchronise your sat nav to your phone’s address book which you can choose to connect to via dialling or by voice recognition. The only thing you will need to check out for is whether or not your phone is supported as not all are, but you can find a list of all compatible mobile phones on the Garmin website. This is a Garmin Nuvi sat nav that is WAAS – enabled (wide area augmentation system for better position accuracy) and comes preloaded with maps of all of Europe. The GPS on this unit comes with all of the usual features and abilities that you would expect a GPS to have today and a few extras as well. The 660 includes; voice-guided directions, automatic rerouting, turn-by-turn text and also a text to voice functionality that enables the device to actually speak the names of specific roads as well. The Garmin Nuvi 660 is able to find the fastest route, the route with the shortest distance or off road and if you would like to stop getting lost when you’re on foot as well as in the car then the 660 can help you out there as well as it also has the ability to be used by pedestrians, cyclists, lorry drivers or even on the bus.

There are many sat navs available that all basically do the same job but there are some that do the job better. The Garmin Nuvi sat nav can be hooked up to your mobile phone via Bluetooth and this sat nav can then sync to your phone’s address book. This is a Garmin Nuvi sat nav that is WAAS – enabled.
